Just goes to show you why we are actually deteriorating culturally. And now we have the fanatics legitimizing their screwed up ideology and other people endorsing it.
Just a thought question for the religious: Have you considered that your God did this intentionally or that he allowed this to happen to Haiti?
If this is true, then aren’t your prayers to help them misguided in the sense that your prayer to God implies that He was wrong for what he did? It’s not man’s place to tell God he was wrong now is it?
I personally do not believe that God (Allah, Yahweh, etc) allows the father’s sins to visit his children. We are all but one small expression of a much larger Divinity and as such I /We can either decide to raise the bar, or lower the bar of our spiritual growth (as members of divers geographical Societies and Cultures) through the choices that we make on a daily basis. How we help each other and where sometimes seems (and is) more critical/timely than other places. We vote for relief with our dollars, dinar, rupees, etc., but that doesn’t mean it will go there: Classic Haiti Gov’t on exhibit here and now, folks.
I want my help to matter, not to be hijacked by the Thug-Life misanthropes that have kept the B$‘s of dollars in US Aid alone given to Haiti for their own use, while simultaneously keeping the majority of the Haitians “down” in a third world lifestyle.
This is not God punishing anyone. This is life happening, the press ’spinning,’ and a whole lot of suffering going on. I will pray for their lives and health of the Haitians while also ‘pondering aloud’ the many different outcomes that could have occurred had the thieves running Haiti allowed a real infrastructure to be built. No on this one, now, but that may change.
You know why it’s good to be a United States Citizen? Many of us know how good life really is…clean running water, fool proof sanitation, grocery stores, homeless shelters, the closest thing to a shanty town is a trailer park. Sure there are some really really really poor places in the US and yes, we should do things to make our own country better and greater. But who are we if we don’t recognize how hard we had to fight to get where we are now in 100 years…..and not to mention….look at where we’re all from! The bulk of my heritage hails from 3 different countries. My husband can claim 3 different countries as well.
Haiti might be the average American’s idea of hell even before the earthquake, but we as Americans can look at who we are, where we came from and then look in our wallets and say, “I have more than I need everyday.”
