I grew up under the military TRICARE system and even now get most of my stuff covered by the VA as service connected. So by and large, this doesn’t affect me too much yet. It’ll probably function exactly the same way these two government systems already do so I’m pretty used to it. If just about everything I need gets covered by it, then I’m definitely going to stop paying for health insurance through my corporate job and just mooch off all free services while pocketing that extra bit each month.

I am a little curious whether or not they’ll just eventually lump all veteran care in with the regular populace since its government provided anyway.

Changes We'll See by VnutZ

I wanted to link to AnonBCA’s comment from another thread – since it seems to nicely summarize the bigger changes we’ll see over the next few years – and is appropriate for this poll.

Although we are told that it will break the us economy it basically seems to be guidelines for health insurance companies. Not being able to drop people that are sick, Not being able to deny insurance to people that are sick, allowing children to stay on parents benefits until 26. These are all good things. The government is not saying you must select state insurance, they are simply saying you must carry some type of health insurance. You need insurance to even drive a car. I would think a life is far more important than a car! I think it is a good first step.
