Suggestions would help... by markmcb :: NR7

While the results of this poll will undoubtedly influence where we focus our efforts, some suggestions and details would be useful. The poll options are intentionally vague. If you have ideas, please reply to the poll (not this comment). If you're not certain your idea is worthy, post it anonymously. Great ideas usually start small. If I need to make Will get on his knees and beg for input, I will. I'm not below that. Not even a little.

supercool search option by Liz_Miracle :: NR5

I think that more articles would be great, but that\'s really a content issue. That will come with more users. . or will more users come because of articles?

I think that the best idea is to improve the sites search options. I\'ve told friends of the site and I usually cater what I tell them to their interests. I tell my politically interested friends about the political articles and my artsy friends about the fiction and paintings on the site. If they had a way to go to the site and just type in a search box what they\'re looking for they may be more apt to return. Just a thought.

hmmm by milhous :: NR5

Here\'s more of a "good idea, bad idea" comment... maybe not applicable, but still cool:

Some sort of picture (<img>) mapped virtual library, with book shelves, in which the book spines are different articles people have submitted.

no? ok,...bad idea.....but still cool :)

Search Engine Optimization by tomtolman :: NR6

The site is great. Short of turning the site into DOOM IV, your best bet is to increase traffic to the site. How many hits do you get from search engines?

When it comes to search engines, google has the market share. PageRank drives the google rank. PageRank goes from 1-10, with a 10 being the most important.

Omninerd's home page is a 2 and some of the internal pages are a 3. PR can be improved by having important (PR 4+) sites link to you. I see you have a PR5 link from Wikipedia. And a bunch of good links from SlashDot posts. With more links like that, your PR will go up and more people will find the site via search engines. Have you submitted the site to DMOZ? Many people mirror DMOZ and it will be a strong link. I'm sure there are plenty of other places out there that would link to Omninerd.

spell check by tomtolman :: NR6

A spell check would be nice. I'm not sure the effort required to put something link that in place would be worth the return on investment though.
