Fishing season by ldsudduth :: NR6

My favorite actually extends from Spring through fall. Trout season begins in March for me up here, and as the waters warm, first walleye, then bass move shallow to spawn. Just before spawn (Note: Never, EVER fish for bedding fish..too much stress on the fish), and then about a week after. Mid summer it gets tough (low disolved O2, warmer water, low stream flows) so I head to the Ocean. Then, as the water begins to cool and rains come back swelling the creeks and streams, it's back inland again--all the way until I get too cold to fish. Just say NO to Ice Fishing...LOL

It could have read "Fall: NFL."

Good Ol' Summer by gnifyus :: NR7

I live in Massachusetts, so the 4 seasons each have their classic distinct contrast here. I have to say at this point in my life summer is beginning to edge out the other seasons for being my favorite. The biggest reason for this, besides the temperature, is simply the fact that it's light out until 9:00 P.M and you can actually do something outside after work.

I've heard many people say "I like the winter because it makes me appreciate the other seasons that much more." I always liken that statement to be along the same lines as the guy who keeps hitting himself in the head with a hammer because it feels so good when he stops.

My sister lives in Florida, and I've had to be down there in the mid-summer. It's as brutal there with the heat and humidity as I suppose it is in New England with the cold, so a persons response to this poll may depend on where they live.

I actually do like the beginning of winter; wood-smoke, fresh snow, the holiday season, etc., but by the end of January, it all starts getting old, and we still have about 3 months of it left.

Fall all the way by NomadSoul :: NR6

For me, it's gotta be fall. So much happens in the fall, there's a kind of electricity in the air as everything gets ready for winter. My favourite holiday is Halloween--the night when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest; and it's based on the Celtic holiday of Samhaine ("saw-eh-nah"), which is the last big blow out before winter, and incidentally the Celtic new year. It's also great excuse to get drunk and act like a fool or an otherworldly creature (it is the night when spirits walk after all). The season seems to bring up what I can only describe as an ancestral memory--it makes me think of pagan festivals and ancient nature magic.

It may also have something to do with an episode of Space: Above and Beyond (remember, a Starship-Troopers-esque show about space marines?). In the episode, one of the main characters described how Fall was a desperate time, when everything knows its about to die, or at least hibernate for a long time. It's the season of last chances, which I respond to as a steadfast procrastinator... anyway, her soliloquy summed up everything I felt about it, plus she was hot and I was a teenager... so, well, anyway--bring on the Autumn!
