…It’ll only take a minute

I wouldn’t say "humbug," but all of the crazy commercialism around Christmas is bugging me more than ever this year.

I think the kids of today are way over gifted. When we have kids I’m going to tell them they get three presents because that’s all Jesus got. If they ask for more I’ll just ask them if they think they’re better than Jesus and then remind them they had just better be glad they’re not getting myrrh.

I just hope there is something nice to eat in the DFAC. For Thanksgiving, we got real Macaroni & Cheese instead of the shells and orange paste they usually serve.

Brandon, this is my last Christmas in Germany. The thing I will miss most about living over here is the lack of commercialism compared to the US. I feel your pain- it distracts from the purpose of the holiday- to celebrate the birth of the Savior of the World.
That said…let’s not use the word Christmas so as not to offend anyone, you know, we don’t want to offend anyone, other than offending the 90% of people who celebrate Christmas.
We just lit the Holiday Tree on Tuesday night here on the base at Grafenwoehr, Germany. Our Holiday Party is next Friday. And then the Holiday training holiday is the Friday before and Monday after Dec. 25.
What are the stores thinking when they refuse to use the word Chritsmas? What are we thinking when we buy from those stores anyway?
I’m saying Merry Christmas to everyone, and if they’re offended they can tell me.
Who gets offended anyway? Any Jewish O-Nerds that resent someone wishing them a Merry Christmas? If a Jew wished me a good Passover or Rosh Hoshanah, or a Muslim wished me happy Ramadan, I’d say thanks and wish them the same since it’s their holiday.
Is it the non-religious then? How does 1% of the population contol what the rest of us say? I bet they all buy their kids presents, too, the hypocrites!
