A study published in the September 2005 issue of Public Library of Science, Biology supports a new drug called CX717 as an effective treatment for sleep deprivation. The study, conducted at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, demonstrated that the drug improved cognitive performance and reversed the effects of sleep deprivation in monkeys.
Cortex Pharmaceuticals, the company that engineered CX717, is also conducting its own clinical trials on humans, exploring the drug's utility as a treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Alzheimer's disease. Another trial, set to begin in September and funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), will evaluate the effects of CX717 on late-night shift workers.
Is this just another pill bottle to add to America's already overloaded medicine cabinets? Or is it a safe and much-needed tool that will allow Americans to finally throw off the crutch of sleep, and spend even more time at work?
Ok, so assuming I live to be about 75 (if the booze, women, tobacco or army don't kill me first) and also assuming that I average 6 hours of sleep a night, I will have wasted almost 20 years of my life sleeping.
Now I can appreciate a good nap as much as the next man. But if I could healthily cut sleep out of my life (or at least cut 50%) I would be a happy man - paranoia and psychosis be damned!
Or you could try a natural cure that won't put you being depending on monkey research or silly overpriced drug companies.

Studies have shown that sleep deprivation causes serious performance problems. People who work with machinery for long hours could benefit from increased alertness.
