Urban Obstacle Course

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 11 December 2005, tagged as fitnessnutrition

Parkour began in France as a fitness challenge amongst hobbyists, but has gained a following internationally. The practice is more commonly known as free running in the English world. Participants make their way through their environment using a combination of running, jumping, climbing and gymnastic feats. Free runners associate a philosophy of 'oneness' with their surroundings as they strive to adapt their body's motion to overcome any obstacle encountered with a fluid grace.

Internet video greatly assisted with Parkour's publicity, captivating viewers with physical feats reminiscent of cinematic ninjas. Over time, free runners have become more audacious to include leaping across rooftops and jumping more than a story's height to the ground. David Belle was featured on BBC crossing London, capturing the public awe when directors revealed not a single special effect or wire was used in filming.

Serious participants liken free running to eastern martial arts and yoga, promoting discipline and championing self-improvement. Belle says, We want to go where no human has ever been before.

O RLY? by Rhodizzle :: NR5

This seems really interesting as a fitness concept to me. There is a website out there called American Parkour that provides information such as daily workouts and a forum for contacting others that do the same thing. The unfortunate thing is that the oldest person that is registered on those boards for Colorado is like 21. Seems like this is big for high school/college students.
