Thoughtcrime in the U.S.A

Newspaper current event by LordDilly on 29 July 2007, tagged as lawjustice

On July 27 a 23 year old man, Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn, was arrested in New York City under hate crime charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment after twice throwing a Quran in a toilet at Pace University's lower Manhattan campus. The incidents took place on October 13, 2006 and November 21, 2006.

Muslim students and the Muslim organization CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) previously called on the University to crack down on alleged "hate crimes," claiming the acts created a hostile campus environment. The University responded by offering "sensitivity training" to its enrollment, but this failed to appease Muslim students and the incident was referred to the New York Police Department's hate crimes unit.

I would put this incident on the same level with:

- burning the flag of the United States just to make a point (does this bother you?);

- sitting down, head covered, eventually looking bored, making puking sounds, when the National Anthem is played at a Texas A&M football game;

- sending your Jewish nemesis a copy of the Mein Kampf;

- dressing up like Adolf Hitler for Halloween;

- dressing up like KKK for Halloween;

- displaying White Supremacist symbols on your desk at work.
