The Banning of Ol' Saint Nick

Newspaper current event by LordDilly on 30 November 2006, tagged as pithy

Saint Nicholas, or, as he is known in Austria, Nikolo, has been banned from Viennese kindergarten classes, causing a political furor that is blamed, in part, on a City Council that is accused of trying to curry favor with the growing Muslim population. Officials insist that Santa really just scares the bejeezus out of little kids, and they are merely trying to avoid having to pay any future therapy bills. Max Friedrich, a Viennese child psychologist calls the ban "total crap" (or however they say it in German) and points out that St. Nick's demonic sidekick, Krampus, is, "way more pants-wettingly scary."

When asked to comment on the ban, Santa Claus responded, "Ho! Ho! Ho! Why, I don't frighten children. I bring joy to their little hearts, and teach them the spirit of giving. Of course, if they are naughty, they get a visit from Krampus." Upon hearing his name, Krampus, a short, hairy, horned demon-thingy cackled in demonic glee and began to salivate. Merry Christmas.

Ouch by Bortnyk :: NR6 :: on 30 November 2006

You know the other night a jolly fat South American fellow from Jaurez came to the door with an angry Cdolumbian and demanded that I do the Macarena for treats. Being less than gifted with rythym they declared my tricks terrible and the angry Columbian stuffed me in a sack and the next thing I know I'm picking cocoa beans on a plantation in Nicarauga. The West Texas version of the Krampus Legend sucks.

Oh MY God.... I never heard of Krampus before...this is horrible...Santa kidnaps and punishes bad kids...and why do Santa's companion look like the devil? It's scaring the 'bejeezus' out of me.

[I don't know how many people watch The Family Guy, but there was one episode where Stewart was afraid that Santa will kidnap him and make him work in a toy sweatshop]

That raises a great poll question: What is the most disturbing holiday myth/folk legend that you have ever heard? a. Krampus b. Vengeful Flying Spaghetti Monster c. ETC.

Personally I remember hearing as a child that the German Santa Klaus gave presents to good children and hit bad kids, but not to the extent of Krampus's pants-wetingness.

It's funny how Santa Clause scare kids more than Halloween.

[No offense Santa, please don't hit me! I've been a good person this year]

Um... 2 Kings 2:23-24? Pretty damn disturbing.

23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.
