Solar Cycle 24 Begins

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 09 January 2008, tagged as space, sunspot, and astronomy

Recently, the sun has been completely devoid of any sunspots. With the sighting of the first reversed polarity sunspot, however, the sun has entered a new solar cycle. Known as Solar Cycle 24, the event has been in speculation for nearly a year by astronomers. It is not yet known what impacts the new solar cycle will have on communications or the climate. Other than Aurora Borealis observers, not many people look forward to a particularly active solar cycle. Some scientists, however, hope a mild solar cycle will allow for experiments in testing a correlation between sunspots and CO2 levels as related to global warming.
