Set Phasers to Regime Change

The situation among the Karen refugees along the Thai-Burma border is indeed grave. Having been driven from their homes by the Burmese military, approximately 1.5 million Karens now live in temporary camps. The military regime which governs Myanmar has even been accused of burning crops in the Karen region in order to starve the population. The situation has actually grown so dire it has drawn the attention of the powerful United Federation of Planets (UFP) and one of its brilliant Starfleet officers, Pavel Chekov. The doughty Russian is greatly concerned at the depth of the crisis and has called on his protégés to get involved. In a prepared statement, Chekov urged the junta to give up its oppressive policies and warned the UFP may be forced to deploy "nuclear wessels."
