It appears that embryonic stem cell research is showing some results. Dr. Douglas Kerr, a neurologist at Johns Hopkins University, led an experiment that helped partially paralyzed rats walk. Even though the experiment is a breakthrough, Dr. Kerr warned that this is just the very beginning: 'This is an important first step, but it really is a first step, a proof of principle that ... you can rewire part of the nervous system.'
