There are a lot of people that like the Apple iPhone that do not like being tied into the AT&T service plan. But that distaste hasn't stopped nearly a million purchases. Looking at the difference in sold iPhones to AT&T activated iPhones reveal that nearly 27% of the iPhones are not connected to the carrier's network. Through a variety of unlocking hacks, users have been able to utilize the coveted devices on the carrier's of their choice. They may soon get to put applications of their choice onto their iPhone as well. The recently hacked SDK key (18 84 58 A6 D1 50 34 DF E3 86 F2 3B 61 D4 37 74) will make iTunes believe an application is "official." With that hurdle out of the way, 3rd party software writers have the ability to write their applications and make them available for end users to upload easily onto their iPhones.

apple is about to release their own sdk which will allow for any and all third party programming...this should take away the need for hacked iphones while allowing all additions to be covered by warranty...
