Ramadan Food Ban Controversy In Scotland

Newspaper current event by LordDilly on 14 August 2007, tagged as worldaffairs

Health workers and doctors in Scotland have been banned from eating lunch at their desks for fear of offending Muslims who are fasting while observing Ramadan. Orders were also issued strongly advising all vending machines be removed from areas where Muslims work, as well as keeping lunch trolleys "out of bounds." The controversial move, coming in the wake of the failed terror attacks on Glasgow, was advised by Glasgow consultancy Meem, which provides guidance about Muslim issues in the U.K.

Let's Try This In Saudi Arabia! by LordDilly :: NR8

In the spirit of cooperation, I propose that Brandon, Scott, idsuddeth and I move to Saudi Arabia and try something similar. Scott can demand that they stop their loud-speaker blaring call to prayer, as it offends atheists. Brandon, idsuddeth and I can demand Christmas and Easter off work with pay. Brandon can suggest to his new place of employment that Muslim co-workers refrain from smoking, drinking coffee, or drinking soda because it might offend Mormons, who abstain from such things. Think it will work, as the Meem website suggests, in the name of "diversity around Race, Religion & Cultures?"
