The global carbon offset market, which has traded 30 billion dollars in emission reductions in 2006, is being called into question as companies are either paying for emission reductions that never happen, or payouts are being made to companies for doing what they would have done anyway.
Carbon offset companies have been rapidly growing, and span the spectrum between the seemingly ethical and professional to the downright flippant in their efforts to create a business around the idea of carbon offsets.
