Putin's Path to Continued Power

News reports emanating from Russia have long indicated that Vladimir Putin would seek to retain power following the upcoming end of his presidency. Many of the Russian government's recent moves have demonstrated that Putin is building a new, stronger Russia, and one that looks to keep him at the helm. Though unable to run for president again, Putin will likely stand for Prime Minister, calling the prospect "entirely realistic." Putin's recent installation of Viktor Zubkov, a political unknown, as prime minister will pave the way for Zubkov to become a relatively weak president in the following administration. Some expect that Zubkov would then cede various powers to a prime minister Putin, or even step down, allowing Putin to once again be president.
