Will and I decided that not everyone visiting this site wants to sit down and read a 10-page article. So, to spice the page up a bit for the people doing the one-minute stop at OmniNerd, we added a poll that is located in the right-hand column.
We don't intend for this to be any sort of scientifically accurate measure of opinion, but rather a point for brief discussion and hopefully a quick laugh. The questions have no focus and the answers will probably be random at best. Regardless, we hope you'll provide everyone with your two-click opinion with the posting of each new poll.
As with any new code on the site, it's likely that it has bugs. If you notice one, please contact a moderator so that we can fix it. Enjoy!
I'm just glad that there is finally something on this site for us females! It's not quite a quiz, but close. . . .verrrry close. If only you had some sort of analytical comment at the end to tell the voter something about themself by the way they voted. "You voted for . . ., you are obviously a deep individual who does not avoid what is known to be right." (I can't take credit for that one; straight from a fortune cookie.) Just a suggestion.
I've done a lot to the back-end code over the last 2 days. Thanks to everyone who emailed me with noticable bugs. I think I've got them all worked out now. If you see any more, please don't hesitate to shoot me a note. Some of the improvements made:
1. Changed the poll tracking code. It was tracking votes solely by IP, but if you know anything about proxies, you know that large groups of people will show up as the same IP to a web server. I added some unique IDs that should allow all unique computers to be able to vote.
2. Did a lot of work on the comments code. I made a generic class from the code I had so that if I to add comments to any other page, it's as simple as making a call to that class. This is where a lot of bugs were introduced, so if you notice bugs with the comments, let me know.
3. Started working on a monthly newsletter. If you'd like to get it, let me know. I'll get a link up eventually, but until I get it a format and media that I like, I don't plan on pubishing the link.
...and by the way, our site usage doubled over this last week. Thanks for the support and keep passing along the site for us!

You know, you should actually call the new Omninerd poll a "meta-poll" because it is really a poll about a poll. How progressive and post-modern of Omninerd. I must say, this is close to being the best website EVER.
