Pipeline Fire Restricts Supply of Crude to U.S.

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 30 November 2007, tagged as oil and economics

5% of available crude oil was lost to Americans during a recent pipeline fire just north of Minneapolis. The pipeline is responsible for carrying roughly 1.5 million barrels of crude oil from Canada daily. Workers were patching leaks in the pipeline when suspected oil fumes caught fire, killed the workers, cut off the supply and spiked gasoline prices. With America already using 20.5 million barrels of oil daily, the temporary loss of the Canadian pipeline further limited the supply to the already overdrawn refineries, as reported by the Energy Information Administration.
