Nike and Apple have announced a partnership directed towards runners and iPod users called Track Your Run. The system consists of a sensor in the shoes that transmits data to the iPod nano and gives real-time voice feedback to the runner concerning their performance. After the run, the iPod can then sync with the computer to analyze the run in more detail.

nano + lots of things by Brandon :: NR9 :: Show
This news has really made me realize that Apple - maybe even more than PDA companies - stands to expand its functionality into much more than music. A few months ago, when I temporarily was PDA shopping, I considered just using my iPod calendar. In the end, it didn't have the features or the ease of use that I was looking for, but I have a rather old iPod; a future model could easily cover all of the PDA funtions I want.
Now, people who are looking for something to power their business on the run, there are probably better choices. But for most out there who are just looking to track a calendar, contacts, take pics/voice memos, etc. a camera or iPod seems the clear winner - as they are things that you'd carry around with you anyway. And, with the introducation of bluetooth headphones for the iPod, maybe Apple is moving to cover both of those bases.
