What does a 93-year-old man and a telegraph have on a 13-year-old and a cell phone? Speed. Gordon Hill, a Morse code specialist, took the challenge of racing four teens to see who could transmit a text message faster. Armed with their separate transmission media, Hill with Morse code and the teens with 'shrt txt msgs,' the two faced off to send the following teen-oriented message:

Hey, girlfriend, you can text all your best pals to tell them where you are going and what you are wearing.

In the end, Hill beat all of his eight-decades-younger opponents by 18 seconds or more. Perhaps the next generation of cell phones will come complete with a telegraph function.
