News Submission System Upgraded

Newspaper

current event by markmcb on 30 December 2005, tagged as omninerdnews

Way back in February, we added news content to OmniNerd. Admittedly, the news submission code was written in about a day's time and was far from optimal. Well, this is no longer the case as we've just uploaded a whole new batch of news submission code to make the process better. Overall, this upgrade should dramatically reduce the time spent in the news submission, review, and posting process.

The new system is still a work in progress in terms of style, but it is functional. Additions worth noting are:

  • Author can append notes to a submission that the reviewing moderator can read, but that won't appear in the news post.
  • Author can allow a moderator to make minor edits to the submission (e.g., grammar, spelling, etc.), or disallow any sort of editing.
  • Better references for OmniNerd Markup (though we intend to develop this further)
  • Moderators can assign more than one category to a post (this is currently only stored in the database, users will be unable to see the additional categories until we update the news system)

There are several other minor updates, but you'll just have to use the system to find them. As with any new batch of code, we know there will be errors. If you find a bug, please notify me and I'll fix it.
