New Developments in Military Exoskeleton

Newspaper current event by gnifyus on 02 December 2007, tagged as military, technology, robotics, exoskeleton, sarcos, and raytheon

The recent acquisition by Raytheon of humanoid robotics company Sarcos (Videos!), seems to be allowing large strides in the development of military exoskeleton technology. The exoskeleton, which is really starting to look and perform like something out of a science fiction movie, is able to give great lifting and work potential to the man wearing it. With it, tasks such as moving 150 seventy-two pound ammo canisters from one place to another, or lifting the weight of a missile overhead, are possible with minimal effort. The prototype seems to also allow enough finesse in movement to play ball or do other more delicate tasks.

The exoskeleton is currently powered by a remote tether and plans for independent mobility and portability are only in the development stage.

Exoskeletons on football players may actually make that game worth watching.
