France, feeling underrepresented in the arena of world ideas, has resolved to launch a new 24/7 news channel, aptly called France 24, that will "cover news with French eyes." The channel wishes to enhance debate and focus on various cultural aspects of life. The fledgling, government-sponsored station, will face stiff competition from news goliaths like CNN and BBC, but may also encounter significant opposition at home. The channel, which seeks to broadcast 24 hours a day, will directly conflict with French labor laws that allow French citizens to only work from 10:15 am to 10:45 am with a ten minute smoke break on any given day. Reports that 10 hours of programming each day will be devoted to cheese issues and how to put out tire fires have many wondering if France can reach a wider international audience.

Mean while in America... by stopgap :: NR5 :: on 08 December 2006
The new Democrat-controlled US Congress took up the issue of adding a culture-centric variety show to Voice of America. Some of the proposed topics of discussion include how to save on gas by shopping for the best deal in a 5-mile radius. The proposal will get to a vote even though every Frenchman knows how misguided such efforts really are. Another topic, which is expected to pass with overwhelming bipartisan support, on the Congress' docket is to rename French toast to Liberty Toast in support of the British, whose cuisine apparently sucks.
