Muslim Groups Want to Boot Beck

Newspaper current event by willwaddell on 28 January 2007, tagged as communication

Muslims groups are not happy with outspoken media personality Glenn Beck. These three groups, in fact, are asking ABC to pull Beck as a commentator from the show Good Morning America. The groups argue that Beck shows a powerful "anti-Arab, anti-Muslim bias ..." Beck's rhetoric is often edgy and he raised many eyebrows when he indirectly asked newly elected Muslim Keith Ellison to "prove to me that you are not working with our enemies." Beck, who also hosts the nation's third-highest ranked radio show, says that the question was poorly phrased and insists that he "make[s] airtime available, at any time, to any Muslim organization to help reinforce this realistic, peaceful view of Islam."

You Know You're Over The Target... by LordDilly :: NR8 :: on 29 January 2007

...when you start taking flak. I watched the Glenn Beck Show Friday when Glen addressed this very issue. He showed a montage of dozens of different times when he specifically said that the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful people, yet these Muslim Groups seem intent on stifling any discussion on Islamic terrorism, as if there are so many other types of terrorists giving us problems in the world. It boggles my mind.

The nearest comparison I can make is those mouth-breathing inbreds at the Westboro Baptist Church- every Christian who ever mention them slams these ignorant wackjobs and points out how way out of touch they are with the actual teachings of Christ. Yet imagine if instead every time the news highlighted those nutjobs the Vatican, say, would insist that whatever news organization aired the report was engaging in "Christianophobia" and demand the firing of any TV personality that ever spoke out against the Westboro Baptist Church.

For some reason, it seems to me that the major Muslim groups in the U.S. seem to care more for eliminating all mention of the connection between terrorism and Islam instead of actively combating terrorism within the Islamic sphere.

which makes me wonder if they even care about the terrorism? With this kind of attitude, can the US trust Muslims? It seems the answer has to be no, unless something really changes.

Muslim comments unwarranted by Anonymous :: NR0 :: on 29 January 2007

Will,

I disagree with the general comment of Beck being "Anti-muslim or anti-arab." In my opinion, his collaberative report about the war in Iraq and why we must continue to fight terrorism; in which he utilized majority opinions of Arabic and Iraqi American citizens, is the only factual and supportive news piece I have seen on the subject. The media in general is extremely skewed either Left or Right. And Beck speaks for those whom have the virtues of patriotism, national security and defending freedom. The bashing of Beck for being "Anti" anything is a monument of America's greatest issue which is over-sensitivity and entitlement. Islamic schools in east lansing, michigan hand out textbooks which preach mujadeen and jihadist rhetoric and are protected by freedom of religion. And in contrast, American's complain about the use of "God" in the pledge of allegence. I have gone off subject. But America is miss informed in general and Glen Beck is the most centered and well virtued media person I have seen. Because he is pro-continuing the fight, he is viewed as extremely right winged and anti-muslim, which is incorrect.

I hope you are well.

Mitch K.

I agree. In fact, for Glen being conservative, I would think it hard for people of the opposite side of the isle to object to anything more than his politics, as Glen is self-effacing, humorous without being overly acerbic, and seems like an all-around nice guy. Pundits like Ann Coulter or Sean Hannity have built careers around being confrontational and mean-spirited, so personal shots against them are to be expected. Picking on Glen personally seems like picking on the nice kid on the bus who gets along with everybody and cheerfully let's people have fun at his own expense.
