Modified Thread Viewing Options: Collapsable Replies

Newspaper

current event by markmcb on 15 June 2005, tagged as omninerdnews

I thought I'd inform everyone of some modifications I made to the comment threads. There is now a third viewing option: 'Collapse replies to comments scored at or below X.' This means that you can collapse comments that are replies to previous comments and not replying to the news post, article, or poll directly.

This option will make it quite easy to sift through multiple conversations without scrolling through pages of text. Just set your comment threshold low and your comment reply threshold high to view the root comments with all of the replies below your threshold listed as bullets. If you want to read an entire conversation, just click the title of the comment you want to start with and all subsequent replies will be expanded.

Additionally, you can set your custom threshold in your preferences. The default has been set at 3, which means comments with scores of 4 and 5 will not be collapsed. I hope this makes reading some of the high traffic news posts a little easier. If you notice any bugs, or have a suggestion on how to make this better, shoot me a note or leave a comment.
