Mammoth Sculpture Ironically Collapses

Newspaper current event by willwaddell on 04 January 2007, tagged as art

How fragile is the earth? A newly unveiled sculpture at Kennesaw State University entitled "Spaceship Earth" was meant to answer that question and provide viewers with perspective on the fragile nature of life on earth. The sculpture, however, has perhaps conveyed its message too poignantly. The 175-ton, million-dollar structure has collapsed, though the text "our fragile craft" ironically remains visible amid the ruin. Officials at the university conjecture that water damage or glue failure may be responsible, but others in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are inquiring into suspicions of vandalism.
