Large Bellies Associated to Dementia

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 01 April 2008, tagged as psychology and health

Using data from physicals conducted in between 1964 and 1973, researchers have been able to correlate cases of dementia today with those subjects having "big bellies" during the more youthful forties. While the correlation has been determined definitive, researchers have not been able to determine why the presence of abdominal fat would affect dementia. From the article:

  • even with a normal body weight, people with large belly measurements were 89% more likely to have dementia
  • normal bellied but overweight participants had an 82% likelihood for dementia that doubled with a large belly measurement
  • the obese had a triple likelihood of dementia with large belly measurements

Such a condition was predicted by OmniNerd willwaddell in his descriptions of a painfully obese and mentally diminished markmcb in The Megatome Chronicles.
