Despite general pessimism in the Information Technology field, jobs flourished by 8% in 2007. That is the second highest growth since 2005, the previous leading year in the past decade. IT currently employs approximately 3.76 million Americans after growing by 300,000 in 2007. Computer scientists and system analysts led the growth surge, followed by IT management. On the other hand, the industry lost nearly 37,000 programmers. Rumors throughout the industry reflect concern that in the wake of the subprime mortgage losses, information technology budget cuts will parallel job losses.
