On December 26th, Army Captain Inman and Sergeant Portell of the 3ACR were killed in action while patrolling through Mosul. They were not shot by insurgents, however, but by a member of the Iraqi Army with which they worked. Conflicting stories have arisen surrounding the situation. According the Pentagon, Kaissar Saady al-Juboory shot the Americans unexpectedly and investigations revealed he has ties to militant groups. On the other hand, the citizenry of Iraq are calling Kaissar Saady al-Juboory a hero because the story they received was that Kaissar intervened when the Americans were beating a pregnant Iraqi woman. Even if it were proven the soldiers were not abusing Iraqi citizens, it is unlikely the public opinion will be changed in the near future.

Haven't been here on the O in a while, but I was perusing the front page and saw this. Captain Rowdy Inman was a pretty good friend and he will be missed by his family, friends and the Army as a whole.
The most important part of this story, however, is that it was the other djundi from the IA unit that identified and aided in the terrorist's apprehension. We can't overlook the fact that this insurgent had infiltrated the Iraqi Army, but the positive response of the IA is far more significant despite the tragic circumstances.
