Iran and Russia Up the Ante

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 27 October 2007, tagged as russia, iran, politics, and worldaffairs

In the wake of recently increased sanctions by the United States against Iran, the nation has responded resiliently that America's actions would not succeed. Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, the Iranian Interior Minister alluded in a speech that America's military would suffer a "crushing response" as Iran "... will defend our security and our country in the strongest way ... The U.S. is well aware that it might be easy to start such an action against Iran but ending that would not be then in the hands of U.S. officials. Such action will definitely end up in U.S. collapse." Adding to the political rhetoric, following his visit to Tehran, Russian President Vladimir Putin has made it publicly clear that an attack on Iran equates to an attack on Russia.

Who started the ante? by Occams :: NR6

We have been provoking Iran for some time now in the hope that it will give us an excuse to attack.

This is a tactic as old as the Persian hills.

Inevitably a proud country will react to these provocations with rhetoric like this.

I think old Mostafah is probably correct to indicate that such action would destroy the USA, although no doubt Iran would also be destroyed in the process.

The window of opportunity for this is growing shorter. We will only have an administration that is capable of taking advantage of this opportunity for one more year
