Policy ignorance is generally the banner under which most employees rally regarding their company's network usage agreements. They seem to understand that business e-mail is monitored for security purposes but tend to cry foul when personal e-mail sent over the same system is scrutinized. Aside from the recent surge in data breaches from lost laptops, e-mail is one of the most dominant vectors of information leakage. As such, a recent tech survey indicates as many as 41% of companies employ staff dedicated solely to reading company e-mail to check for leakages and a quarter of those companies have terminated employees for breaching their policies.
