Honda Debuts FCX Clarity Fuel Cell Vehicle for 2008

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 18 November 2007, tagged as automobile, alternative energy, mechanics, science, and fuel cell

At the 2007 auto show in Los Angeles, Honda introduced their new edition of the FCX. The vehicle is based upon a hydrogen fuel cell which results in emitting only H2O from the tailpipe. Honda expects to begin leasing the FCX vehicles in the United States beginning in 2008 for as little as $600 per month. Consumers can expect the FCX Clarity to perform with efficiency equal to a 68mpg engine, a driving range just shy of 300 miles and a top speed of 100mph along with a complete suite of creature comforts built into the cabin.

Virtuous Consumption by Anonymous :: NR0 :: on 22 November 2007

This doesn't look like a very practical car to me. The lease cost is very high, and the use is limited to within a couple hour's drive of one of the few hydrogen refilling stations in the SoCal area. In spite of this, I imagine that they'll be able to lease quite a few of them to people who can afford to make a $600/month lease payment on a second commuter car, and either want the latest in automotive gadgetry, or who want to demonstrate their environmental virtue by driving a car that in effect burns electricity rather than oil.

I have to applaud them though, for trying a different approach to reduce our dependence on oil. I hope that it evolves into something more widely useful.
