Internet users in China are subject to growing frustration over China's strict implementation of website censorship and restriction via the "Golden Shield Project", also known as "The Great Firewall of China." By utilizing complicated filters and employing tens of thousands of human monitors, sites such as Google, Wikipedia and now Flickr all fall under the Chinese government's heavy scrutiny. As a result, many users have been seeking methods of bypassing the filters, leading to a growing online culture meant to subvert the firewall, which is fueled by frustration, and only tempered by the fear of arrest.
Keep up the good work, very informative site!!

Just a little test... by gnifyus :: NR7 :: Show
Just for the heck of it I went to www.google.cn (China version) and typed "democracy" into the search field. I noticed that the first item in the search list was a wikipedia entry. Read what the search item it says carefully, and then click the link. A completely different wikipedia article (U.S. version?) seems to come up for me instead of what the Chinese version of Google showed.
Type "tianamen square" (spelled wrong) into the google.cn search.
Then type it spelled right: Tiananmen Square
Apparently bad spellers get 'alternate' info.
