New model cars have featured instantaneous fuel economy gauges for years. Consumers also have third party gadgets available to provide the same service on older models. Yet none of these efficiency instruments quite compare to the video displays featured in hybrid vehicles that give drivers detailed information about how their actions are impacting fuel economy. This will change soon as auto manufacturers intend to incorporate the fancier displays for their complete automotive lines, including non-hybrid, hoping drivers will recognize how their driving habits introduce shortcomings in fuel efficiency. Despite leading the initiative, Toyota comments, "Even if we put it in all cars, some buyers might not care."
