Firefox Attempts to Set Single Day Download Record

Newspaper

current event by VnutZ on 17 June 2008, tagged as internet, software, and firefox

The Firefox team is attempting to set a single-day world download record. Firefox 3 was released today and their bid for a record number of downloads led to a surge of network activity that completely overwhelmed the Mozilla servers. Web surfers are asked to download the latest Firefox browser and contribute to their record setting launch event no later than 5:00pm UTC, 18 June.

The record should reach astronomic proportions after the millions of OmniNerd readers surge Mozilla in what shall one day be known as the "OmniNerd Effect." Unlike the Slashdot and Digg effects, the OmniNerd Effect is known to warp not only web servers, but also time and space.
