Scientists say 2007 may be the world's hottest year ever recorded - a phenomenon at least one place experienced in 2006 - but there may be some that don't want you to know that.
The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), a nonprofit environmental advocacy group, recently released a report stating that ExxonMobil has been spending big money to confuse the public about global warming. This is not the first time ExxonMobil has been in the news for alleged global warming misinformation; Exxpose Exxon and student activists descended on the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2005 with a similar message.
ExxonMobil struck back to the most recent allegations, saying the report was "yet another attempt to smear our name and confuse the discussion of the serious issue of CO2 emissions and global climate change."

They're just not ready yet. by gnifyus :: NR7 :: on 04 January 2007
It’s hard to directly fault ExxonMobil with actually causing global warming, but they are supplying a demand for a product that’s consumption is being blamed for some of it. (So of course everyone else is to blame for using the product.) But they want to insure that everyone has to keep using their product for as long as possible, even if it may be harmful. Check out the Ethyl Corporation story if you want to see an historical example of corporate denial of their products harm. (Or any tobacco company for that matter.) These were just blatant denials of known problems. ExxonMobil gets a lot of breaks too for things they were directly at fault for, so why would they ever own up to any indirect harm if they don’t have to?
