Engineered Kittens

Newspaper

current event by VnutZ on 26 September 2006, tagged as bio and research

The US bio-tech company Allerca has announced the arrival of the world's first genetically engineered pets. Allerca has produced a line of kittens lacking the Fel d1 gene, the allergen common to felines. These hypoallergenic cats are the result of a natural process, as 1 in 50000 cats lack the gene, rather than a redesign of DNA. But do not expect to purchase one cheap, the animals are currently running a $4000 price tag. For people prone to cat allergies, however, the process may open the long closed door to enjoying the company of pets.

I'm just not sure... by lilsis :: NR5

I'm just not real sure on what to think about this. As it may be a natural process in nature, could this be playing God? Also, did they do a poll of some sort to see if people would really spend that much for a cat?? I think this whole idea is just a little crazy!
