Email Upgrades

Newspaper

current event by markmcb on 25 November 2005, tagged as omninerdnews

First, happy Thanksgiving to all! I hope everyone ate too much food and is now contemplating how to burn off all of the extra calories. Judging by the lull in O-Nerd traffic, I'm guessing that everyone is having a good holiday.

Between turkey consumption and snow skiing I managed to squeeze in a few hours of much-needed code for OmniNerd. After much hair pulling, I finally realized why certain domains like AOL and Yahoo! were filtering our emails. So I made some phone calls to our server host, tweaked some code, and booya ... everything seems right in the world.

So, if you've had any issues in the past receiving emails after registering, when people reply to your comments, or when the monthly newsletters are sent out, you should be quite pleased with the new code upgrades. If you have any issues after reading this, please let me know and I'll look into it.

Otherwise, enjoy the weekend! I'll leave this post open to discuss the following question: if the admins/moderators were inanimate objects, what would they be?

And User Pages Too! by markmcb :: NR7

I forgot to mention in the news post that we're revamping user pages. So, if you click on another user's name in a news post or comment, you'll go to their user page. The URL looks like:

http://www.omninerd.com/~markmcb

... you can replace the user name with any other name and it'll take you to their page. This is just a rough draft right now. Eventually we'll add a blog-like portion to it and all you to post whatever you like on your user page for others to see.

I'll leave this post open to discuss the following question: if the admins/moderators were inanimate objects, what would they be?

Allow me to answer my own question:

  • willwaddell: a vaccuum cleaner (because they suck)
  • Brandon: an illegible gold plate
  • mwhite: I would say infinity, except that it doesn't exist
  • mikeforbes: can of Raid
  • mvea: a Jeep

... sorry if those are all inside jokes ... well, except for Will's, it's universal. :-)

Curious what you were doing incorrectly to be filtered specifically by Yahoo and AOL, if you don't mind sharing for the sake of free disclosure.

Background:

I work in email marketing on a daily basis, sending quite a few million emails daily. All of the email I send is permission based (meaning somewhere you checked a checkbox that said you wanted to hear from one of our business units). I work regularly with deliverability issues and not sure what you could be referencing that would be specific to those ISPs.
