DoubleTwist to Offer Cross Platform Media Transparency

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 20 February 2008, tagged as computing, multimedia, and hacking

Jon Johansen achieved instant Internet fame in 2000 when, as a teenager, he released a program called DeCSS which broke the encryption scheme used to prevent DVD copying. Eight years later, DVD Jon (as he is known) is programming again. This time, he has created a cross platform engine called DoubleTwist for extracting, formatting and loading multimedia files. For example, DoubleTwist would allow a user to connect a cell phone and extract images or music whereupon it can be transferred to a dissimilar device like an iPod. Enroute, if necessary, DRM will be stripped from the file to ensure its universal portability to any device. DoubleTwist even has FaceBook plugins to allow media sharing to occur via the popular social network.

More than just DVDs by twabulldogg :: NR5

DVD Jon has done a lot more than just unlocking DVDs. He is quite active in attempts to unlock anything and everything for consumer use, especially the iPhone, iTunes, and other Mac products. He keeps an update at his blog.
