Controversy Surrounds Bhutto's Cause of Death

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 02 January 2008, tagged as pakistan, election, and world affairs

In the days since Benazir Bhutto was assassinated, controversy has emerged regarding inconsistencies in the official story. The original cause of death was purported to be the gunshots, captured on on video from a handgun. Later, the Interior Minister announced her death was actually from ducking into the vehicle and hitting her head on the sunroof lever. Yet another claimed cause of death was fragments from the suicide bomber. The only consistent story comes from the hospital's doctors who indicate she died from blunt trauma to the head "that usually occurs when something big, with a lot of speed, hits that area."

The incident has led to a postponement of the Pakistani parliament elections; a tentative date is set for February 18th in lieu of January 8th. Officials have indicated the cause of the delay as being the time necessary to reprint the ballots, as well as waiting until the holy month of Muharram has passed. Conspiracy theorists believe the delay is necessary for Pervez Musharraf to rally enough support to beat opposition leader Nawaz Sharif in the absence of votes for Bhutto.
