Comet Holmes Brightens a Millionfold

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 26 October 2007, tagged as space, astronomy, comet holmes, and comet

Comet Holmes has idled in relative obscurity since its discovery in 1892. Lacking the distinctive tail and glowing at a dim 14.5 magnitude, the Holmes comet was not the most attractive celestial object. Curiously, in a matter of hours, the comet brightened into a magnitude 2.8 object capable of spotting with the naked eye. Currently located in the constellation Perseus, casual stargazers have the opportunity to observe the curiosity. Astronomers currently have no explanation for an energy source causing the sudden flare in magnitude.
