Cleanin' House and Addin' On

Newspaper

current event by markmcb on 09 May 2005, tagged as omninerdnews

First, let me thank everyone that provided input in last week's poll. It was all discussed and is being digested. The two big wants seemed to be collaboration tools and a nicer search tool. So let me give you a quick update as to where we're at with both...

Collaboration Tool:

This is likely to be a long project that takes us two or more months to implement. The basic idea is that people will be able to collaborate and co-author articles on the site. We're tossing around ideas on the moderator side of the house and are just about ready to solidify the proposed database structure. The rest will come in pieces. As we get pieces working that are useful, we'll post them on the site for a test drive.

Search Tool:

Lucky for those of you wanting better search capabilities, I was already coding a search script. We've done extensive testing on it and deemed it worthy of posting on the site. The code is over 1000 lines long so there are bound to be bugs. We think we've worked out all of the big ones, but if you get a weird error, post it in this news thread or shoot me an email. Be sure to use the search F.A.Q. so you know how to best use the tool. If you've used Google at all, it should be very familiar.

In addition to those two items, we've also been cleaning up the site. The F.A.Q. section has a new look and feel as well as many more answers. Be sure to check it out. The site is still a long way from complete, but it's looking better. Please keep feeding us suggestions.

You are the Nth OmniNerd by markmcb :: NR7

A fun but fairly useless addition to the site is in your activity history (registered users only). The title line now tells you which OmniNerd you are numerically. If you've got a single digit, you should feel special. You could probably sell your account for several million dollars. That's right, million.

Search Menu Item by markmcb :: NR7

I just added a search bar that you can add to your side menus if you want it.

edit posts? by tomtolman :: NR6

Have you considered giving users the ability to edit their own posts?

I've been sitting on this one for a while now, but you can finally update your email address if you need to in your preferences.
