Canadian Plans to Launch Bottle Rockets Into Space

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 20 February 2008, tagged as rocketry and science

Bottle Rockets are simple devices using a standard two liter soda bottle for fuselage, fuel containment and thrust shaping. They have long been a hobbyists' fancy due to their basic design and harmless fuel (water & air pressure). Canadian Ken Schellenberg plans to take bottle rockets to a new level - the reaches of space. Schellenberg has adapted his rockets to moderately more advanced than a simple soda bottle by reshaping them with heat, using kevlar, carbon fiber and compressed nitrogen. His modifications have achieved a bottle rocket altitude of 379 meters. While still shy of the internationally recognized boundary of space by 99.621 kilometers, Schellenberg is unfazed and believes its only a matter of time.
