Books on Present-Day Religion, Science, and Politics
Welcome! OmniNerd's content is generated by you, the reader. Through voting and moderation we strive to highlight the nerdiest of what's around and provide content that's a little more thought provoking than other sites.
As the conversation on OmniNerd heated up over the last week concerning the topic of evolution and intelligent design I found myself scouring the net looking for articles, essays, and books on the topic of not just the origins and development of life, but the more general schism between the right/Republican/religious and the moderates/political-middle/scientific that has recently formed since the Bush Administration took control of the country.
I found an interesting book review at Wired.com entitled The Republican War on Science. It sounds like an interesting read, though it's hard to say how objective it will be. Does anyone in the crowd have any recommendations for books assessing these issues from either side of the fence?
I haven't read the book personally, however I have heard good things about God's Politics. It's more of a political book that talks about how religion is/isn't exploited by the republicans and democrats. It's suppose to be a humorous slant on the whole thing.
Your framing of the question, putting it as:
right/Republican/religious
(which by the way are mutually exclusive)... and
moderates/political-middle/scientific
(also m.e.), leads me to believe you're not looking for something objective on the subject.
