The Archbishop of Canterbury has called for the addition of Sharia Law into the UK, noting that accommodations for other beliefs are already in place. Dr. Rowan Williams believes this will strengthen community relations with Muslims, and while he doesn't want to see the inhumanity often associated with Sharia law applied, he does want them applied with regard to marriage and divorce. Dr Williams pointed out that some Orthodox Jewish courts already operated in Britain, and that anti-abortion views of Catholics and other Christians were "accommodated within the law." Also, the Catholic Adoption Agency has the right to deny adoptions to gay couples.
Sharia Law (depending upon the version being practiced) allows for numerous interpretations with regard to marriage. In the worst instances, women are no more than chattel, may be beaten once a month, and marriage can be as young as 9. How does Dr. Williams propose to make accommodation for all Islam sects?
