There is some tough talk coming out of France these days. Newly elected president Nicolas Sarkozy, in his first major foreign policy speech, described a nuclear-armed Iran as "unacceptable" and implicated that unless the world launches a major diplomatic offensive against Tehran, the remaining alternatives would be "an Iranian bomb or the bombing of Iran." The French President said he believes that the current situation with Iran is the most serious facing the international system. Sarkozy also outlined his thoughts on a number of world issues, including Russia, China, the Iraq War and Turkey's bid for entry into the EU. A recent poll in France shows that 75% of the people believe President Sarkozy has bolstered France's international role, despite years of previous decline.
