Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth"

Newspaper

current event by ldsudduth on 19 June 2008, tagged as global warming, politics, green, and energy

Almost two years later and it appears as though Al Gore has An Inconvenient Truth of his own. It seems the spokesman of the "Global Warming/Climate Change" political machine has actually increased his energy usage by 10%.

According to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Al Gore consumed an average of 17,768 kWh of electricity per month since June 2007 - a startling 10% (1,638 kWh) increase over the previous year. By contrast, the average American home uses 11,040 kWh per year. Yes, that's right. Al Gore's home used enough energy last year to run 232 average sized American homes.

Yet, Al Gore had claimed to have "gone green" by using CFLs and other non-incandescent light sources, installing solar panels and a geo-thermal system, and even buying his electricity from "green friendly" sources. "Going Green" has to include reducing your energy consumption footprint, though - not increasing it and merely offsetting that with "carbon credits" and "green energy" sources.

“A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said Drew Johnson, President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. “Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment to the environment, judging by his home energy consumption.”

After winning an Oscar, a Grammy and a Nobel Peace Prize for An Inconvenient Truth, this all comes as something of a shock. Is this a case of "Do as I say, not as I do?" Has Gore been merely propagandizing an issue that doesn't apply to him? Gore's personal wealth increased by $100 million dollars from his speaking engagements and other "green" oriented sources.

“Actions speak louder than words, and Gore’s actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity,” Johnson said. “Gore is exploiting the public’s concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile.”

Al Gore may not be living up to his own ideals, but that doesn't change the issue or let people off the hook for living more sustainably.

It's OK by Anonymous :: NR0

If he is building a political machine that publicizes green issues, then it is OK that the machine uses more resources -- they are resources well spent. Better he than Bush, for instance. As for his millions, again, better he than one of Bush's Treasury-looting cronies. Is Gore a saint? No. Does Gore need to be a saint? No. He only needs to fight the good fight.

This article vomits up simplistic factoids and pretends to present some kind of compelling moral argument, when in truth it is just an opportunity for cynical mudslingers and his considerable army of enemies, to sling some at Gore.

It is vile.

First off, has anyone done the simple arithmetic to validate all these numbers? None of them add up:

If Al Gore averages 17,768kWh per month that is 213,216kWh per year which is what the article states (about 6kWh off for Al Gore's year last year, but close eough). So if the Average American Home uses 11,040kWh per year, divide Al's number by the Ave American home and THAT is how man average American homes Al is able to power in a year: 213,216 / 11,040 = 19.3 homes......not 232 (can we say misleading?). Now, those 19.3 homes for a year if we were take the average monthly consumption would be 232 homes in a month, but not EVERY Month of the year,....just that one month.....again misleading.

Still, Global Warming is a crock as I've stated before. Matter can not be created nor destroyed....it is a physics law.....think about it,...there is a raging drought in the midwest.....and the Mississippi is overflowing like crazy.....makes sense,...that water in the midwest hasn't been destroyed and the water in the central plains hasn't been created,...it's just in a different region. Global Warming, if we are going to coin the phrase is just chaos theory in its human explanation form.

Unless you post where this information comes from, I am VERY sceptical to accept it. I mean - show me the bill from the electric company, not some research group, funded by who know which oil company.

I can say that Gore actually REDUCED his energy consumption and if I don't give you a link or tell you where I got this info from , it has exact same credability as your.

One more question. Did Al Gode do MORE that 232 average americans to educate and raise awareness aobut this issue?

We are doomed anyway. Politics, oil companies, insurance and medical companies are the real criminals and will kill all of us..
