Air Force Contemplates Military BOTnet

The old "Everyone-Else-Is-Doing-It" element of warfare is slowly creeping into the non-secretive element of the Air Force's new cyber command. It's no secret foreign nations like Russia, China and North Korea have been ramping up their offensive hacking capabilities and many have even used them extensively. America's own information warfare programs have always remained very clandestine - until COL Williamson recently published a case for making an offensive, American controlled BOTnet for aggressively denying network services to our adversaries. Williamson explains, "The biggest challenge will be political How does the US explain to its best friends that we had to shut down their computers?" The BOTnet would inevitably utilize computers of both domestic civilian and international civilian machines as it rooted around spreading itself.
