Adobe to Help Counter Forgery

Newspaper current event by VnutZ on 14 March 2007, tagged as photography

The practice of forging artwork is almost as old as art itself. Manipulating photographs is hardly a new trend either, however, the age of digital photography has made the methods more accessible to the average user. The matter is especially at the forefront of news media vendors with the most recent Reuters fiasco during the short-lived Israel vs. Hezbollah war. Adobe, the imaging company known mostly for its Acrobat and PhotoShop products, is taking steps to make digital manipulation more detectable. In essence, the nature of image compression relies on the relationships of adjacent colors. Part of the new algorithms can detect color anomalies that are introduced by an unnatural adjustment to the image.
