SEOmoz has announced the results of the second annual Web 2.0 Awards. The awards include over 200 websites in 41 categories, a significant increase over last year. According to Rand Fishkin, SEOmoz CEO, the awards were “less about a site's prominence at Technorati, PageRank or accumulation of links, but rather, on whether it truly rocked at what it did.” The winning sites were selected by a panel of more than two dozen judges and include industry heavyweights Digg, Craigslist, Flikr, and YouTube as well as less known start-ups such as Yelp, PEERtrainer, and Care2.
In addition to ranking sites, SEOmoz interviewed many of the founders about their experiences launching their product. Most Web 2.0 site creators empahsized staying focused on the user and being willing to adapt. Todd Sieling, Product Manager of Ma.gnolia, recommends other web entrepreneurs, "keep listening and talking to your members." Kevin Hale, one of the founders of Wufoo, thinks it is more important to watch users than actually listen to them. He explains, "you have to realize that user interface studies have shown time and again that what you have to trust is what the users DO and not what they SAY."
